Traditional Anniversary Gifts
Ideas From Your 1st to Your 65th Anniversary

The history of the traditional anniversary gifts list started in the middle ages, in Germany. Husbands gave garlands of silver and gold to their wives on their 25 and 50 years of marriage.

Origins Of The Traditional Anniversary Gifts List

In 1922 Emily Post wrote Etiquette in Society, in Business, in Politics and at Home, it was a bible of how to behave and the right way of doing things. There is a small chapter on wedding anniversaries and the gifts associated with them, the list was;

1st - paper

5th - wood

10th - tin

15th - crystal

20th - china

25th - silver

50th - gold

75th - diamond

Also had to share one line about anniversary gifts that makes me giggle in Emily Post's book,

"These need not, however, be of value; in fact the paper, wooden and tin wedding presents are seldom anything but jokes."

She had obviously never found the amazing gifts that we have here!
