Traditional Anniversary gifts come from the anniversary list that was started in the middle ages in Germany with husbands giving garlands of silver and gold to their wives on their 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries.

In 1922 wrote Etiquette in Society, in Business, in Politics and at Home, it was a bible of how to behave and the right way of doing things. There is a small chapter on wedding anniversaries and the gifts associated with them the list was;

50th anniversary, gold

75th anniversary, diamond

Also had to share one line about anniversary gifts that makes me giggle in Emily Post's book, "These need not, however, be of value; in fact the paper, wooden and tin wedding presents are seldom anything but jokes." She had obviously never found the amazing gifts that we have here!

It has been added to since, with gifts for every year up to your 15th anniversary and then every 5 years after.
